From grassroots to the elite, Tasmania’s sporting landscape is thriving, and now there’s a direct pathway into the industry for the next generation of leaders.

National First

In a national-first, Tasmania’s leading sporting organisations have partnered up with TasTAFE to launch the Tasmania Academy of Leadership and Sport (TALS), a dual-diploma designed to build real careers in sport.

Backed by the Tasmania Devils, AFL Tasmania, the Tasmania JackJumpers, Cricket Tasmania, and Netball Tasmania, this purpose-built education pathway blends nationally recognised study with hands-on experience inside the heart of elite sport.

After a successful launch in Hobart earlier this year, TALS will expand to Launceston in 2026, providing more young Tasmanians with a direct pathway into professional sport careers.

“The Tasmania Academy of Leadership is unlike a typical campus-based education experience. Our students are emersed inside the four walls of an elite sports environment, educated by our staff and support staff, and get that real connection to the elite sports industry here in Tasmania.”

“It’s been fantastic to work somewhere like Ninja Stadium. Being able to network, see these leaders down at the coffee shop, and talk to them about what is going on in the sports industry has been really helpful in knowing how it all works behind closed doors”
— Cameron Blizzard, TALS student

Applications Open

With applications for the 2026 Intake now open, prospective students are invited to attend one of several upcoming information sessions in Hobart and Launceston. These sessions offer a first-hand look at the Tasmania Academy of Leadership and Sport and the pathway it provides into a professional career in sport.

“Just do it. Take the leap. It will be well worth it.”
— Rachel Hedgeman, TALS student
