Our Program.

Find out how TALS is supporting the careers of Tasmania’s next sporting generation.

What We Offer

Tasmania is home to a thriving and diverse sports industry, from organisations representing the Map on the national and global stage to grassroots clubs that play a vital role in local communities.

In a first of its kind initiative in Australia, and in collaboration with TasTAFE, a coalition of the state’s leading sporting organisations has come together to create a dedicated pathway for emerging talent in sports administration, game development, coaching, and leadership.

This tailored dual diploma program in sport and leadership provides Tasmanians with the skills, knowledge, and real-world experience needed to build meaningful careers within the state’s growing sports sector.

  • This qualification reflects the role of individuals who apply knowledge, practical skills and experience in leadership and management across a range of enterprise and industry contexts.

Individuals at this level display initiative and judgement in planning, organising, implementing and monitoring their own workload and the workload of others. They use communication skills to support individuals and teams to meet organisational or enterprise requirements.

They may plan, design, apply and evaluate solutions to unpredictable problems, and identify, analyse and synthesise information from a variety of sources.

  • This qualification reflects the role of individuals who apply the skills and knowledge to pursue a range of roles within the Australian sport industry.

They work or volunteer at community-based sport clubs and organisations in the Australian sport industry.

Individuals with this qualification are involved in the self-directed application of knowledge and skills, and the provision of leadership and support to colleagues. They work autonomously and coordinate and supervise others.

Jesse O’Hara, Head of Education & Impact at Tasmania Football Club

  • "It’s been fantastic to work somewhere like Ninja Stadium. Being able to network, see these leaders down at the coffee shop, and talk to them about what is going on in the sports industry has been really helpful in knowing how it all works behind closed doors"

    Cam Blizzard 25’

  • "I was with the students recently and asked who might be interested in university – pretty much the whole class raised their hands. Then I asked how many were interested in university before this program, and very few raised their hands. That's a really nice entry point."

  • "The TALS program was inspiring for me. It opened doors I didn't know existed in Tasmania's sporting industry."
